Walter J Chapman was born
at Eversholt, Bedfordshire in 1851. He was baptised on 6 April 1851. He was
the son of James Chapman (1820 to 1896) (CHA00003)
and Sophia nee Kingston Chapman (1823 to 1911).

Walter
J Chapman, 30, was an ironmonger’s assistant living with the Greenacre family.
Walter,
then an ironmonger, married Annie Maria
Byron (1854 to 1917) on 27 December 1881 in the Church
of St Andrew the Great, Cambridge. Annie was born at Green Lane, Battersea on
30 December 1854.
The
marriage certificate was signed William H Byron, her father.
Annie
Byron was born in Battersea on 30 December 1854 and baptised on 18 February
1855. Her father was William Henry Byron (born about 1825, a domestic servant
in 1850 and a lawyer’s clerk in 1860) and her mother was Margaret Ann nee
Demsey (born in Liverpool in 1823). In the 1861
census for Battersea Annie Byron was 6, living with Harriet Byron, 37 (a
charwoman born in Liverpool) and her brother William H Byron, 9. It seems
Harriet Byron in the 1861 census was the same person as Margaret Ann Byron nee
Dempsey.

CHAPMAN-BYRON: Dec 27, at St Andrew’s the Great, Cambridge (by the Rev J
Martin), Walter Chapman, of Croydon, Surrey to Annie Maria Byron, of Earl

This
may be the wedding of Walter Chapman and Annie Byron. The photograph is
unlabelled from the collection of Anne Farndale (who is no longer alive) and it
seems likely that this is what the photograph depicts.
