Elner Farndell,
daughter of Tobias Farndell was baptised at Heyshott,
Sussex on 23 May 1618 (Sussex PR).

In 1807, John
Beale married Jane Stroud in West Itchenor, Sussex.
He was a widower when he married Mary Stroud (sister) in 1812 at St Marys,
Portsea, Hants. Beale captain of the ALERT, a collier brig. of Chichester,
belonged to James Farndell, foundered off Chichester harbor
in a heavy squall and all hands perished. John Beale master of sloop PROVIDENCE
(59 tons), sloop NANCY (72 tons) and the brig ALERT (118 tons), he was captain
of the ALERT since 1835-34
