1812

When Thomas Mills married Grace Frankland at Brotton on 17 September 1812, the witnesses were Mary Farndale, John Wilkinson, George Farndale (perhaps FAR00170), and Mary Mills (Brotton PR).

It would be expected that Mary would be using the surname Frankland, not Farndale in 1812, but this seems likely to have been her, at the wedding of a relative, perhaps sister, of her husband. Perhaps John Frankland had died, although I have not found a record, and that for some reason Mary had returned to her parental home at Kilton and started using her maiden name again. That she was a witness to her husband’s relative’s wedding does not suggest a falling out with John.

1844

There was a Mary Farndale who died in Brotton on 28 February 1844 and was buried on 1 March 1844 (Brotton PR). This seems likely to have been her, again having reverted to her maiden name.
