William Farnell, was born on 21 October 1788 in Coxwold, the son of Elias Farndale and Dorothy
Farndell (nee Heseltine, spelt Hessledine
here) (FAR00184) of Windgate Hill, Coxwold, Farmer. He was baptised on 26 October
1788.

As we know from census records he was
born in Coxwold area, it is likely to be correct that he was the son of Elias
Farndale (FAR00184) and
perhaps the same person as FAR00212
- William Farnill, born Coxwold son of Elias Farndale (FAR00184) and Dorothy Farndell (nee
Heseltine) at Wingate Hill Farm, Coxwold.

He lived with his wife Margaret, who was
45 and his son William, aged 15, also an agricultural labourer; his daughter
Elizabeth aged 13, his daughter Sarah aged 11; and his son Robert aged 9.

William Farndale was living as the head
of household at Bishop Wilton. He was a widower by then. He was aged 73 and an
agricultural labourer.
This record shows that he was born at
Coxwold (in the Ampleforth area).
1871
1871 Census
William Farndale was still living at
Bishop Wilton now aged 83. He was living with William Barnes (aged 57) and Mary
Barnes (aged 46). William is shown as a lodger.
This record shows him to have been born
at Yearsley which is near Coxwold.
William Farndale died at Pocklington (south east of
York, not far from Bishop Wilton) in third quarter of 1871. He was 82.
