1802

Hannah Farndale, was the daughter of Elizabeth Farndale (FAR00204) of Skelton, baptised on 1 March 1802 in Skelton and buried same day (Skelton PR). No father is shown. She was the daughter of the then unmarried Elizabeth. In the language of the time, the records record her as the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth.

1819

It seems to have been this Hannah who faced an attempted rape when only 15 years old. A Bill of indictment for assault was raised against Barnabas Welford, George Simpson and Stephenson Cuthbert, lately of the House of Correction at Northallerton for assaulting Hannah Farndale spinster with intent to rape her. The offence was committed at the township of Brotton on 5 October 1819 and the Bill was endorsed with names of witnesses and "a true bill" (Yorkshire Archives document reference QSB 1819 4/6/14 - 1 piece – Catalogued).

1825

More happily, Hannah Farndale married Francis Cooper both of this (Skelton) Parish, who were married by Banns on 30 May 1825 (Skelton PR). Hannah was then aged 23.
