1846
Maria
Jane Farndale, likely to have been the daughter of William Farndale (FAR00286) and Mary Wood was
baptised at Wetwang with Fimber,
Yorkshire on 1 March 1846 (Wetwang PR).
In
the language of the day, she is said to be the illegitimate daughter of
Mary Wood, a single woman, but her father’s name is listed as William Farndale.
So presumably William Farndale was not married to Mary Wood. Her father was
probably William Farndale (FAR00286)
before William’s marriage on 24 July 1847 to Bessy Langdale.
1864
It
could have been Maria, who got into trouble for a fight over the use of the
pump with a neighbour on 25 January 1864. Sproatley
is east of Hull and is not too far south from Wetwang.
She seems the most likely person this relates to.
Hull
Advertiser, 30 January 1864: Sproatley. PETTY
SESSIONS. On the 25th instant (before the Rev C J Wall and T Ward
Esq) – Maria Farndale was summoned by Emma Rawsey for
assault. Both parties reside at Sutton. Complainant and defendant are
neighbours, and both use one pump. The alleged assault arose through both
parties, who happened to meet at the pump, having their first turn. Fine and
costs, 9s 6d.
Wetwang is 20km SE of Malton, near Driffield, 15km SWW of
Bridlington.
1877
There is no further record of Maria Jane
Farndale, but Maria Jane Wood married Thomas Botham at Driffield in 1877 (York PR).
