Sarah Annie Farndale, daughter of George and Hannah (nee Walker) Farndale (FAR00350C) was born in Guisborough District on 26 September 1870 (1939 Register), and baptised on 2 October 1870 at Loftus (Loftus PR). Sarah Annie Farndale’s birth was registered in Guisbro' District in the third quarter of 1870 (GRO Vol 9d page 442).

She may have been the mother of five babies who died at birth or very young, at Loftus between 1888 to 1897 – see Loftus 3 Line.

Darlington

Sarah Annie Farndale married Arthur Wilks at Darlington on 26 May 1897 (marriage records). She was 26 and he was 22.

Arthur Wilks was the son of Edward Wilks (1829 to 1900) and Eliza (nee Ingledew) Wilks (1833 to 1924) and was born, probably in Great Ayton in about 1875.

William Wilks was born on 22 August 1911.

1916

An Arthur Wilks was killed in action at Flanders on 28 February 1916. He was serving with 4^th Battalion, the Yorkshire Hussars.

The memorial at the small bridge over the River Leven at Great Ayton.

However this was probably someone else as Arthur Wilks was still recorded in the 1921 census.

Sarah A Wilks died in Sheffield, aged 70 and her death was registered there in the third quarter of 1945 (GRO Vol 9c page 384). She was buried at Tinsley Park Municipal Cemetery on 25 August 1945.
