TEACHERS’ EXAMINATION ASSOCIATION. The first examination of the present year
took place in the Priory Street Wesleyan Boys’ School, when 89 pupil teachers
and candidates, representing 31 schools or departments of schools, offered
themselves for examination. This number, which is the largest ever presented at
one time in York, included 20 males and 69 females. The examiner, Mr W C Senior,
had just completed his inspection of the work done, and the following are those
who have succeeded in obtaining the first position in their several years of

held in the St. Georges Wesleyan Schools, York, out of 76 candidates and pupil
teachers who had entered for the examination, 70 presented themselves to
undergo the ordeal. They represented 30 schools or department in the city and

December 1890: PUPIL TEACHERS’ PRIZE DISTRIBUTION AT YORK. The tenth annual
distribution of prizes in connection with the Yorkshire District Pupil Teachers
Examination Association took place in the Lawrence’s schoolroom, York, last
evening. There was a public tea, to which about 100 sat down cover and
subsequently the prize distribution took place, being attended by an
entertainment of a pleasing character. The Lord Mayor had promised to preside,

TEACHERS’ SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATION. LOCAL SUCCESSES. … pupil teachers who have
been successful in passing the above examinations which was held in July last.
The number of candidates is larger than that of any previous year, seeing that
now all fourth year pupil teachers must take the
examination, whether they intend entering a training college or not. The
examination is now compulsory to all pupil teachers in England and Wales, from
both voluntary and board schools. 5,147 females and 1,808 males have been
successful, and the following are the successes of local candidates arranged in
