Leslie was a Regular Army Sergeant in
the Sherwood Foresters in 1950. There is an article about him in the Nottingham Evening Post of 18 and 19 October 1950 showing
that he reached that rank when he was cleared of a charge against him. He was
attached at that time to the RAMC and WRAC and regimental pay office.

confirms that before then he had served in the Army as a Quarter-master
sergeant.
