Grantham Journal, 2 May 1958: LITTLE PONTON FARMER’S BEREAVEMENT. Deplored death of Mrs G R Baker, wife of Mr G R Baker, a farmer, of the Grange, Little Ponton, who had been ill for some time, and the funeral service, which preceded cremation at Leicester, was at Little Ponton church on Saturday, conducted by the rector, the Rev THL Parker. The large congregation bore testimony to the esteem and respect in which Mrs Baker was held. Organist was Mr Cann, of Little Ponton. Immediate mourners were the widower: the Misses Jennifer and Jacqueline Baker, daughters; Mrs D Wright, mother; Mr J C Wright and Mr P H Wright, brothers; Miss H M Baker and Mrs Farndale, sisters in-law; Mr G Farndale, nephew; and Mrs PH Wright, sister in law.

 

1974

 

23 March 1974: LITTLE PONTON FARMER DIES IN HOSPITAL. The farming community in the Grantham suffered a loss by the death of Mr G R Baker, of Little Ponton. He died in Stamford Royal Infirmary after a short illness, at the age of 69. Mr Baker went to farm at Harlaxton in 1937 and after marrying Miss Joyce Wright in 1940 moved to the Grange at Little Ponton. In his younger days he rode to hounds and was a successful point to point rider. Latterly, his main hobbies were fly fishing and shooting. For the past eight years he had been an active president of the Stragglers Cricket Club. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs Jennifer Skelton, of Thorpe Arnold, and Mrs Jacqueline French. A large congregation attended the funeral service at Little Ponton church which was followed by cremation at Grantham. Chief mourners were Mr and Mrs Skelton, sons in law and daughters; Miss H Baker, Mrs A Farndale, sisters; Mr G Farndale, nephew; Mr and Mrs J C Wright. Floral tributes were received from Jenny and Bill; David, Caroline, James and Nicholas, grandchildren; Kim and Jackie; Hilda, Peg and family; Roger and Edna, Foston cottage; Len Sims and family; Mitch; Martin, Anne and Richard; Jack and Muriel; Chat, Colwyn Bay; Jack, Joe, John and Chatty; Directors and staff, Chandlers, Grantham.
