This Ancient Hamlet of Old’ John Farndale describes life at Kilton in the 1790s. He writes, ‘……………Near
them is Samuel Farndale and Betty, his wife, and their five children, one yet
still alive (the book was written about 1870), cabinet makers and joiners,
Wesleyans. They had some land, lived to be old and died at Kilton, respected.’

from the Kilton Overseer’s Accounts
at monthly intervals mainly for ‘meal’ or ‘wheat,’ occasionally for coals and
once for going to Guisborough, up to
1799 after which she was paid 5s a week until 6 April 1800 when she was paid
4s. There are no further payments to her after this date and she died in 1801.

Farndale, Samuel’s wife died in 1801.
