1804

Hannah daughter of John & Dinah Farndale, (FAR00198) carpenter of Whitby, was baptised at St Mary the Virgin Church, Whitby on 1 March 1804. She was born on 29 February 1804. (Whitby PR & IGI).

1829

Edward Hunt bachelor, joiner & Hannah Farndale, spinster, both of Whitby Parish were married by banns at Whitby on 29 September 1829. The witnesses were John Coulson and Ralph Greenberry. (Whitby PR). Hannah was aged 22.

I am very grateful to Julie Andrusyszyn, who is the great grandniece of Edward Hunt.

Her research has discovered that Edward Hunt and Hannah Farndale had nine children. Edward was the only surviving of four children of Robert Hunt and Elizabeth Tiplady. The marriage between Robert and Elizabeth didn’t last and Elizabeth went on to marry John Spencelayh and Robert Hunt married Anne Arno. The Tiplady line links to the Dryden family who were heroic lifeboatmen, one of whom was the first RNLI lifeboatmen in Whitby.

1831

Elizabeth Hunt was born in 1831.

1835

Dinah Hunt (1835 - 1913) was born in 1835. Dinah married George Leeder.  George's family were a renowned Whitby family and were also lifeboatman.

1838

Hannah Hunt was born in 1838.

1839

John Christopher Hunt (1839 - 1903) was born in 1839. John Hunt married Eleanor Best.  They, again, had nine children.  Edward Hunt (1863 - 1903) was born in Stockton on Tees and moved to Chicago, Illinois.  In Stockton he was a sawyer but seems to have various jobs.  He married Mary Ellen Gale and they had five children.  Their son Edward (1892 - 1957) married three times. Initially he married Edna Earle Woodworth. Edna Earle was a Canadian First Nation whose family traced back to the founding of the Hudson Bay Company.  Going forward the Woodworth family had genealogical links to many well known Americans including many Presidents.  The family were Palatines who fled Germany due to persecution.
