Charles Farndale, son of William and Ada (nee Fawell) Farndale (FAR00531) was born in Richmond District at Gillingwood Hall, Gilling on 10 September 1905 (1939 Register). The birth was registered in Richmond Yorkshire on 7 October 1905 (BR, PR, BC, GRO Vol 9d page 661)

When Charles was born, they lived in 1905 at Gillingwood Hall, Gilling (near Richmond) and William was then a farmer.

Leeds Mercury, 14 August 1930: THE RICHMOND SHOW. The 19th annual show of the Richmond Agricultural Society was held today in dull weather. The entries showed a decrease of about 200, principally in the classes for cattle, sheep and grain.... At the luncheon, the Marquess of Zetland, who presided, said that as Senior Steward at the Jockey Club his personal attention has concentrated on thoroughbred bloodstoe. He hoped in due course to have some very useful horses, which his family had always maintained in that class of sport. The following were the chief awards... Horses for field purposes... Leeds Mercury, 4 September 1931: BLOOD STOCK SHOW. PRICES REALISED AT REDCAR. A show and auction sale of hunters and bloodstock, originated through the show founded two years ago in the East Riding of Malton by Lord Middleton in order to bring breeder and buyer into direct contact, was held at Redcar Racecourse today. The idea of instituting this show for North Riding horse breeders and dealers was conceived by Mr T S Petch, of Liverton Lodge, Loftus, and an entry of over 100 fully justified the experiment. Leeds Mercury, 12 May 1938: A SWALEDALE WEDDING. Well known Swaledale agricultural families were united yesterday by the wedding at Richmond Centenary Methodist Church of Mr Charles Farndale, only son of Mr W Farndale and the late Mrs Farndale, of Gillingwood Hall, Gilling West, and Miss Harriett Anne Raw, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F Raw, of Bend Hagg, near Richmond. The bride wore an ivory satin dress, with veil and coronet of orange blossom, and carried red roses. The chief bridesmaid, Miss A Coatsworth, of High Lodge, Richmond, wore powder blue crepe, with hat and shoes to tone, and carried pink carnations.

Leeds Mercury, 13 September 1939: The wedding took place at Reeth Methodist Church, yesterday, of Mr Herbert Raw, second son of Mr and Mrs F Raw, of Bend Hagg, near Richmond, and Miss Evelyn Frankland,... The bride, who wore a dress of white satin, was attended by Miss Irene Frankland, her sister. Mr Charles Farndale was best man.
