21 July 1937: RUNNING THROUGH THE RAINDROPS. CENTRAL GIRLS’ SPORTS.
In a small field hidden away between St Bartholomew's church and the back of
the Bishop's palace gardens the girls of the Central Girls’ School held their
annual sports, on Thursday. Dull skies and occasional drops of rain did nothing
to mar the enthusiasm of the young athletes, and the rain which fell yet later
in the afternoon and evening just came at the conclusion of the meeting. A
large crowd of parents and friends was present to watch the racing, which was
very much enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike.... 60 yards sack race,
