kept out all the goals that day! Redcar won 4-0.
York Herald, 1 November
1886: REDCAR
V TYNE. At Redcar. Rain fell up to within a few minutes of play being
commenced, and in consequence the ground was in a wretched condition. Redcar
were most fancied, and, as was anticipated, they beat Tyne somewhat easily by four
goals to nil. Tyne kicked off, and for about a quarter of an hour, the play was
principally in Redcar territory, but Taylor, an old Middlesbrough St. John's
forward, obtaining possession of the globe had a nice run down the field with
it, and made a low swift shot for goal... The game ended in favour of Redcar by
four to nil, as above stated. The whole of both teams played an excellent game,
and it would be unfair to individualise any player. Teams: Redcar: goal, G Farndale...
He also played in back, when Redcar lost to Whitby by 2 goals to nil.
Whitby Gazette, 18
December 1886: WHITBY
