1565
We don’t have a
birth record for George, but if he was 30 at his wedding, then he was born in
about 1565. He was probably be the son of William and Margaret nee
Atkinson Farndale (FAR00063).
Wilton is a small
village and civil parish near Kirkleatham. George’s
likely mother, Margaret Farndale was an Atkinson from Wilton, and Eln was probably
his George’s sister who married into the Atkinson family of Wilton, possibly a
cousin. George Farndale (FAR00067) married
Margery Nelson of Wilton. Although we don’t have birth records, this all
suggests this was the same family.
1592
In a Deed of
1592, a George fferndale of Moorsham is
referred to several times relating to property at Skelton as to whether he had purchased it a
previous date. If it was this George he might have been about 27 (Deed 1592).
1595
George Farndale
of Skelton married Margery Nelson of Wilton
in 1595 (Wilton PR/YATJ p362, Pavers Marriage Licences 15676 to 1614, Boyd’s Marriage
Indexes 1538 to 1850)
Wilton is a
small village near Kirkleatham.
Farndale, George
of Skelton – Nelson, Margery, of Wilton – where to be married: Either Place (Paver’s Marriage Licences from the registry of York:
Marriage Licence: 1595).
George Farndale
married Margery Nelson in 1595 (England Boyd’s
Marriage Indexes).
So he seems to have been living in Moorsholm
(about 3 miles from Skelton) by 1592, but married in Skelton.
1599
William Farndaile (ffarnedaill) was born at
Skelton in 1599 and baptised on 24 January 1677 (FAR00071).
1601
Susan Farndaile, was born at Skelton in about 1601
(FAR00072).
1602
George ffarnedayle of Moorsome is mentioned in the
Inspeximus in Skelton Church Records in
1602 (Skelton Parish Papers).
George Farndaile (Georgins ffarndayle) was born in Skelton on 16 March 1602 (FAR00073).
1603
Infanta Farndale was born in Skelton in 1603 and
buried at Skelton on 4 January 1603. She probably died at birth (FAR00074).
1604
Richard Farndaile (Rychards ffarnedayle) was born
in Skelton in 1604 and baptised there on 3 February 1604 (FAR00075).
1607
George Farndaile
was buried on 9 March 1607. George Farndayll seputs (‘buried’) at
Skelton 9 Mar 1607 (Skelton Parish Records).
If his date of birth was in about 1565, he might have been 42 when he died.

Acts taken from the Acts Books, 1603 to 1611
1609
In 1609 an abstract of Administration of the Goods of George
Farndale, late of Moorsome, Diocese of York, deceased. Granted to Margerie
Farndaile and Isabel Pinckney (for their own use and for the use of Susan,
George and Richard Farndaile, children of the deceased) (York Wills).
Also in 1609. ‘The Dean of Cleveland grants
guardianship of William Farndaile, Susan, George and Richard Farndaile,
children of George Farndale, deceased, together with administration of their
affairs, goods, rights and portions to Margery Farndale by choice of the said
children.’ (York Wills)
So it was felt necessary to provide for the children remaining in
the guardianship of their mother!
