Richard Farndale, labourer of Great Ayton and Esther Farndale formerly
Thwaites, (FAR00288) was
born on 28 July 1851 and baptised on 2 December 1851 at Great Ayton (IGI). William Farndale’s
birth was registered at Stokesley District in the third quarter of 1851 (GRO Vol 24 page 622).

This must be William
Farndale, whose daughter Emily was associated with Yarm, on the outskirts of
Stockton.
North Star (Darlington),
26 May 1890: Messrs
Hodgson and Farrow, auctioneers. LOT 1. All that freehold dwelling house,
situate near the High Green, in Great Ayton aforesaid, now in the occupation of
Miss Griffiths, containing breakfast room, parlour, kitchen, four large
bedrooms, 2 attics, large store closet, dairy and cellar, together with this
table, wash house and other outbuildings, and the large garden behind the same.
Also the freehold cottage, or tenement, with the garden behind the same,
adjoining the above named dwelling house, now in the occupation of Mr John
Williams Simpson. LOT 2. All those freehold cottages adjoining lot 1, together
with the out houses and gardens behind the same, now in the respective
occupations of Messrs Stephen and Davison. All the above property is in good
tenantable repair, is very pleasantly situated, facing south, and has a
frontage of 90 feet. Mr William Farndale, joiner, Great Ayton, will show the
property, and particulars may be obtained from the auctioneers, at their
offices at Stokesley; or from Messrs Fawcett and Faber, solicitors, Stockton on

Rural District Council. At the meeting of this authority, Mr T G Fawcett
presiding, the following resolutions were come to; That the surveyor of the
Ryedale District Council be asked to meet Mr Dixon with respect to the approach
to the Fangdale Beck Bridge; that a reward of £2 be offered for information re
the damage done to the Black Beck Bridge, Bilsdale; that the clerk be
instructed to write to Mr Moss asking him to remove the water that flows up on
the highway from the new garden recently made by Mr R B Turton at Kildale. It
was further unanimously resolved on the proposition of Mr. Wilson that the
Council undertake the work of repairing the footpath at Crathorne, subject to
Mr Dugdale bearing half the cost, estimated at £20. Tenders for a new
footbridge between Busby and Sexhow werel received as follows: Mr Farndale,
Great Ayton, £7 17s 6d; Mr Wake, Carlton, £8 15s; and Marmaduke Hebden, £9; and
it was finally decided to accept that of Mr Farndale. The following tenders
were also received for the construction of a new stone bridge over the stream
crossing the highway between Stokesley and Broughton ..

In 1915, he was the beneficiary of the Will of John Lax:

April 1915: ESTATE OF MR
J LAX. Mr John Lax of Mount Pleasant, Norton, who died on the 19th December last,
left an estate of the gross value of £23,809 11s 2d, of which £13,195 10s 7d is
net personalty. Probate of his Will, dated 24th January, 1896, with codicils of
the 20th February, 1902 and the 4th December, 1902, have been granted to his
nephew, Mr. John George Corner, of Morton house, Redcar, and Mr William
Farndale off 7 Derwent Street, Stockton on Tees, millwright. The testator left
£20 per annum to his cousin, Mary Jane Thompson; £100 to his housekeeper Mary
Wilson, if in his service of his death; £500 to William Farndale, if
residing with him at his death; and the residue of his state he left as to
one half to the children of his sister Mary Anne Wren and one half to the
children of his sister Elizabeth Corner.
William Farndale, died aged
64 at Stockton District in the third
quarter of 1915 (DR).

Latest Wills. … Mr William Farndale, of 7 Derwent Street, Stockton on Tees,
formerly of Norton, near Stockton, who died on August 5th last, left estate
valued at £1,677 12s 11d, gross, with net personalty £1,656 17s 11d.
