Press ganged into the Royal Navy, Giles served on HMS Experiment in the Spanish Main during the War of Jenkins Ear where he died and was buried at sea

 

John Farndale wrote letters home from the Crimean War. Most of the adult generation of the family of an age to fight in 1914 took part in the First World War and many fought in the Second World War.
